Upon arrival, you will first take a boat cruise around this water town, Zhujiajiao is a water town with a history of more than 1,700 years. Endowed with another elegant name - 'Pearl Stream' - the little town is the best-preserved among the four ancient towns in Shanghai. Unique old bridges across bubbling streams, small rivers shaded by willow trees, and houses with courtyards attached all transport people who have been living amidst the bustle and hustle of the modern big city to a brand-new world full of antiquity, leisure and tranquility. Zhujiajiao is one of the nearest water towns away from the urban area of Shanghai. Its traditional atmosphere is completely different from Shanghai city. If you want to relax yourself and learn some exquisite water town culture, Zhujiajiao is a good option.

It is said that to visit Zhujiajaio without seeing the bridges means that you have not really been to Zhujiajiao at all!

Bridges in the town are distinctive and old, built during Ming and Qing Dynasties. Among over 30 featured ancient stone bridges in the town, Fangsheng Bridge gains the greatest fame which is also the largest five-hole stone bridge in regions south of Yangtze River. The North Street with old style shops and decorated red lanterns is the most vigorous ancient street that none of others can match in the country.

Your lunch will be arranged at the local restaurant popular with the local people to stay away from the tourists' meals. (At your own expense or ask your guide to recommend some other restaurants if you have special dietary needs.)

Recommended dishes and snacks in the town: meat wrapped in leaves, steamed pork dumplings, roast soybeans, braised pettitoes, dark-rice zongzi and rose-flavored fermented bean curd.

After lunch, transfer to Shanghai and back to the modern world by visiting
Yuyuan GardenThe best private garden in Shanghai. It was considered the best garden in southeast China. It enjoyed a history over 400 years since its first establishment by Pan yunduan who had intended to bring happiness and pleasure to his parents and relatives. This garden which is a must for visitors from the foreign countries represents the past of Shanghai. The pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds and cloisters in the garden all have unique characteristics. Next to the Garden is the most popular bazaar in Shanghai, here you can see a wide range of local street food, souvenirs, etc.

Adjacent to the garden is the Yuyuan Bazaar, Originally there was just a temple (The City God Temple) that was built in the 15th Century. Today the area is also home to a lively market that specializes in traditional Chinese arts and crafts. You can pick some antiques, silk fans, bamboo articles, shell carvings, paintings, or you try some Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings), vegetarian buns, chicken soup to experience a little of the Shanghai culture.

The last stop is The Bund. The Bund is a waterfront area in central Shanghai. The area is in the eastern part of Huangpu District centers on a section of Zhongshan Road ,which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River, facing the high, modern skyscrapers of Pudong,Traditionally, the Bund begins at Yan'an Road in the south and ends at Waibaidu Bridge in the north, The Shanghai Bund on which you can embrace the best cityscape, feast on the rich architectural fashions ( Gothic, Baroque, Rome, Renaissance, Classic and Mixed Eastern and Western style, etc.) and know why Shanghai is glorified as "Paris of the East". There are a number of attractions in the area, such as Shanghai World Financial Center, The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Century Park, Century Boulevard, Jinmao Tower etc. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Shanghai.

After the sightseeing drive you back to your hotel in Shanghai or Shanghai train station (based on your requirement). Our service ends.

Excellent Tour of Shanghai city and Zhujiajiao Water Town

Our tour guide was Nancy. She and our driver showed up promptly at our hotel. The vehicle was a spacious newer van with plenty of room. The tour took us to Zhujiajiao Water Town and we were able to select 3 other locations in Shanghai. We selected Jade Buddha Temple, the Bund, and Shanghai Tower. Nancy was very entertaining and provided a lot of history and information about the sites we visited. She also took us to a local restaurant near the temple for a delicious lunch. We loved how she ordered real Shanghai dishes for us to try. She also gave us tips on what to see on our own the next day. I highly recommend this private customizable tour and be sure to ask for Nancy!

Excellent Your and Great Guide

This is a great way to learn some cultural history about China and Shanghai. Highly recommend you do this when you first arrive and then you can go back and visit the spots on your own. Our guide, Alex, was great and suggest you request him. His English was very good and very easy to understand and he was very patient with all the picture taking and allowed us to customize the tour to our liking. The driver, Mr Gio, was very good and the van comfortable. Nothing bad about this tour - we did Zhujiajiao, the Narrow Ally Way, the French Concession and the Jade Buddha and all were very interesting.

Zhujiajiao Watertown and best of Shanghai tour

Alex gave us a great tour. Loved zhujiajiao and definitely recommend doing one of Shanghai Watertown tours. Alex did a great job of showing us Shanghai sites. For lunch, he took us to a restaurant for locals and ordered us a lovely variety of typical Shanghaiese dishes. Delicious! Alex exceeded all our requests and made us first time visitors very comfortable. Highly recommend Alex and driver, Mr Wong, and would definitely use Shanghai Private Tour again. Thank you.

Amazing Shanghai tour with Sam

The four of us had a great full day tour of many diverse sites in Shanghai. We started with the Watertown tour which was an interesting historical contrast to the hustle and bustle of the downtown Shanghai area. We visited a beautiful garden, and saw an extremely interesting local market with all kinds of delicacies to try. We took a boat ride through the river and under the bridges of the town. Afterward, we headed back to the core of Shanghai. Our guide Sam, provided us with many interesting facts about the history of Shanghai and the current situation and culture in China and in Shanghai. We visited the Yu market in old town Shanghai, the Bund area along the river. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and our wonderful guide Sam!

Great Day Tour of Shanghai to visit the highlights and Zhujiajiao Town

We had a fantastic tour with our guide Alex. He spoke excellent English and was easy to communicate with throughout the day. We were able to get to the Shanghai Bund, Zhujiajiao Water Town, Jade Buddha Temple and Yuyuan Bazaar (the garden was closed for updates) so it was a very informative and well run day. Our driver also did a great job of driving through some very busy traffic and we felt safe in our comfortable vehicle. We would absolutely recommend this day tour for a superb overview of Shanghai, both old and new. Thank you to Alex for providing us a memorable day!!

A Great Shanghai Day Tour for the city highlights & Zhujiajiao Water Town with Guide Sam

Very much enjoyed this full day tour with our guide Sam. Started in Zhujiajiao which mid week was not crowded in the morning. We toured a garden ( guide explained the Kew gardens was closed and this gave us the same “ feel”), took a short gondola ride ( this is the Venice of China) then walked through a shopping district and finally had an excellent lunch. Our guide, Sam, was very knowledgeable and was easy to understand and had a very pleasant demeanor. After Zhujiajiao we headed into downtown for the other highlights: Yuyuan bazar & The Bund. Do be prepared for a lot of time in the car as Shanghai is huge and it takes a long time between stops. That said, our driver magically appeared when we needed him, provided water, and a clean comfortable ride. All in all, I feel we got an excellent overview of the old and the new which is modern Shanghai.

One day tour of Shanghai & Zhujiajiao Water Town for a great overview of Shanghai

We had a fantastic time today with our tour guide David. We walked along the bund to begin our day and then went to Shanghai tower (Option on our own) where once we soared to the top David pointed out the interesting buildings and neighborhoods and told us all about them. We also went to Yuu Market, so interesting and full of life, we did some shopping and then went to the Zhujiajiao water village. There we had a wonderful lunch in the traditional style before taking our river cruise. Then David took us through the beautiful gardens and told us about its rich history. We did everything we set out to do and learned so much from our knowledgeable guide, thank you David!!!!

Amazing day tour to Zhujiajiao Water Town

We had the best day with our guide David in Shanghai. He took us to the Zhujiaiajiau water town which was very beautiful. We had a relaxing ride in the gondola and we then had the opportunity to buy gifts in the many local shops at a very reasonable price. We then went to the Jade Buddha Temple which was well worth a visit and David was very informative, making this more interesting. It was a calming and spiritual place to be.
Finally, we went to the Yu Gardens, walking through the Old Town to get there.
David and our driver were very flexible and allowed us to change parts of our itinerary during our tour.
Thank you David for looking after us, we would recommend this tour to fit in the highlights of Shanghai in a day.

Fantastic Zhujiajiao water village tour

We got picked up on time by a darling great English speaking guide, David. He was knowledgeable about all things in China and Shanghai and where we were going. The car was new and clean. The area was so unique and so different from Shanghai but only about an hour away. I would do this tour for sure. It was really neat to see such a different place. It really was the Venice of China. David and the driver were wonderful.

Beyond our expection.

It was an amazing tour, a day very well spent. The guide was very professional and supportive, helping even with negotiations at the Zhujiajiao water town market. The whole day package was very well put together. We drove to the Zhujiajiao water town from Shanghai at 9:00am and back to Shanghai city skyline watching after a very good lunch at the town. I would recommend it to everybody. Ask for Jin, the super guide.
