Bund Sightseeing Tunnel

Introdution
Located in the diamond area of Shanghai, the bund sightseeing tunnel connects the north side of Chen Yi Square at the bund and the Oriental Pearl Radio and Television Tower at Pudong. The bund sightseeing tunnel has a total length of 646.7 meter. Modern high technologies are applied in the decoration of the interior walls of the tunnel, providing the passengers with pictures, patterns and views about yellow sea stars, pink flowers, strange geometric figures, which are full of dynamic power and full of enchantment. the environment-friendly non-driver traction whole transparent sk compartments make tourists feel as if they were right at the scene.

The Bund Sightseeing Tunnel is one of Shanghai's top five tourist atrractions and it's also one of its strangest. Bizarre, trippy audio-visual effects play as you travel in an automated car 'into the core of the Earth' under the Huangpu river. According to Zhang Bin, who’s been the sales director at the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel since its opening in 2000 and claims to have been on the ride more than 10,000 times: ‘The story is about going from space into the core of the Earth and out again. We couldn’t show the dirty Huangpu, which has no fish, so we went for something bigger and better. It’s the only tunnel like it in the world.’

Originally, the tunnel was planned to be a moving walkway, but government planners discovered automated cars from France, which they decided to use instead. For the audio-visual effects, an American company who had worked with Disney were initially pencilled in, but ended up being too expensive. Instead, a now-defunct Shanghainese company created the concept, from the trippy visuals to the ‘nascent magma’.
Baffling as the ride may be, it’s now one of Shanghai’s top five tourist attractions, having entertained two million visitors since opening. It runs from The Bund to Lujiazui, close to the Pearl Tower and costs 45RMB for a one-way trip or 55RMB for a round-trip.

Bund Sightseeing Tunnel connects underwater the junction of the Bund and the Esast Nanjing Road on the west bank of Huangpu River and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower on the east bank of Huangpu River. Completed at the end of 2000, it is the first under-river pedestrian tunnel with a total length of 646.7 meters.

Escalators are installed at its entrances and exits, and hydraulic pressure lifts are especially designed for the handicapped. The highly advanced automatic non-driver traction compartments will be used to carry passengers and it takes about 2.5 to 5 minutes for this modern clean and light vehicle to run from Puxi to Pudong. Its maximum capacity is 5280 persons per hour. Modern high technologies will be applied in the decoration of the tunnel, providing the passengers with background music as well as pictures, patterns and views about people, history, culture, science and technology and natural scenery. Tourists will be deeply impressed by the visual and audio enjoyment, fun and excitement while passing through the tunnel.

The completion of the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel not only makes the tunnel itself a new tourist spot of Shanghai, but turns it into a rainbow that bridges both sides of the Huangpu River in the urban tourism of Shanghai due to its advantageous geographical location.
